Dr Rebecca Lester

Rebecca is a Wellcome Trust Clinical PhD Fellow currently based in Malawi.

She trained in medicine at Sheffield University and is a specialist registrar in Infectious Diseases and General Medicine with the London Deanery. She has an MSc in Tropical Medicine and International Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and has worked clinically in Tanzania, Uganda and Malawi. She was based in Malawi in 2015-2016 as a UCL Academic Clinical Fellow, during which time she carried out a feasibility study of antimicrobial stewardship at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.

She returned to Malawi for her PhD September 2017 and is researching outcomes of drug-resistant infection and transmission of antimicrobial-resistance determinants, with a focus on ESBLs.
