Rachel Byrne
Rachel is a first year Medical Research Council PhD student based at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, with a focus on molecular diagnostics.
As part of DRUM, she will be interrogating environmental samples collected during household surveys for the presence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) markers. Alongside this Rachel intends to evaluate the current tools utilised in the diagnosis of AMR as well as develop novel technologies suitable for use in both environmental and clinical samples. The need for new diagnostic platforms for AMR is highlighted in the WHO’s global action plan on antimicrobial resistance.
